Student Learning Surveys
With our School Focus of finding out how our community, through acts of kindness and our makerspace impacts student learning, we recently spent some time looking at our Grade 7 Student Learning Surveys from the 2022-2023 school year. These surveys are administered each year to students, in an effort to gain some insight into the experiences of our students at home and at school.
We know that students are better prepared for success when they have positive, healthy relationships. We want to create a school environment that supports student well-being and positive mental health. With this in mind, we looked at a few specific questions in the Student Learning Survey to give us some insight into our student well-being. While there are many questions regarding student experience on the Student Learning Survey, the Grade 7 student responses on the following 3 questions stood out:
1) Do You Feel Safe at School? 87% of students responded most or all of the time.
2) Do You Feel Welcome at Your School? 86% of students responded most or all of the time.
3) At School, do you respect people who are different from you? 95% of students responded most or all of the time.
Our grade 7 students are often looked upon to be the leaders of the school and set a positive tone, and it is very encouraging to see so many of them have such a positive response to these important questions. We hope our focus on Kindness continues to be a positive theme throughout our school community.
