Space Matters

Our grade 4/5 class is studying the physiographic features and natural resources of Canada. Using manipulatives each table group created a map of Canada to interpret and represent specific information. The students translated information from a map into a visual 3D installation. For Example: the chess pieces represented the Rocky Mountains between Alberta and BC, the red playing cards represented maple trees in fall along the border of Ontario and Quebec.

This assignment focused on core competency of communication which encompasses the knowledge, skills, processes and dispositions we associate with interactions with others. Through their communication, students acquire, develop and transform ideas and information, and make connections with others to share their ideas, express their individuality, further their learning, and get things done. The communication competency is fundamental to finding satisfaction, purpose and joy.
