Our school's learning story demonstrates how our school community is working to improve learning and well-being for students. This ongoing commitment is driven by a continuous focus on enhancing student achievement and enriching students’ experiences at school. Our efforts are guided by district’s strategic plan and the Ministry of Education and Child Care’s Framework for Enhancing Student Learning policy. This is our collective learning journey, and reflects our shared commitment to growth, collaboration and continuous improvement in support of student success.

How can we improve the literacy skills of all our learners at Grauer Elementary?

The data that supports the need for this school learning focus is:In looking at the previous year's report card data, we noticed the percentage of students who were proficient or extending in English Language Arts was lower than the District average.
Actions that the school will take to achieve the goals of our school learning focus include:
  • Teachers have administered the Fall SPARK and RFRA screeners to identify areas of strength and areas of struggles in literacy
  • Staff are engaged in Collaboration Days with our District Teacher Consultant with a focus on literacy
  • Staff have engaged in professional learning on around literacy on Professional Development days
The intention of these actions is to make the following difference(s) for learners:We hope students will become stronger readers and will employ a wider variety of reading strategies.
We will know our actions are making a difference when we have data that demonstrates the following:We'll know we are making a difference when we begin to see improvements in the number of students achieving proficiency in our RFRA and SPARK data, report card data, and FSA data. We will also know our actions are making a difference when we observe students using a range of comprehension strategies.
