Weaving Time and Patience

As part of the Applied Designs, Skills and Technology Div 3 is learning how to knit. Knitting is a hand building technique which is complex task that requires the acquisition of additional skills.

The making aspect of ADST involves the students using appropriate tools and materials for production. (knitting needles and wool). The students have to follow a plan for production that includes key stages, and carrying it out, making changes as needed. The materials are used in ways that minimize waste. As well as teacher demonstrations and support, a personal digital instructional tool (a learn to knit video) was used to enhance learning and engagement.

While learning to knit the students are self regulating, as they develop an awarness that learning involves patience and time. The children are learning that they can persevere in difficult situations. Yes, we can!
