We have begun to check-in with our students through a short, written survey to get their perspective on how things are going for them at Grauer Elementary, as we continue to look at shifting our School Focus. While the survey contains a wide range of questions, one of the questions students are being asked to answer is:

Which subject do you struggle with the most at school? Why?

While it is still early in the survey process, an early trend is emerging where many students are indicating that Math is a subject they are struggling with. Responses such as, “my brain can’t quite get along with math and it’s like I’m the opposite of a magnet and nothing sticks to me” and “I enjoy math, but I have lots of trouble with it…. math was never really my thing…” are coming out in the surveys.

There are still many more students to survey, but it will be interesting to see if many students continue to indicate that Math is an area of concern for them. As we continue to survey and analyze results, we will look for trends that might help inform our shift in our School Focus.
